This weekend, AAPC Publishing will be a proud exhibitor at the
22nd Center for Autism & Related Disabilities (CARD) Conference
at the Florida Hotel & Conference Center in Orlando, Florida. This two-day
conference begins at on Saturday, January 17, and concludes January 18.
The Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD) are a
system of regional autism supports that provides consultation, training and
individualized support to help children and adults with autism, dual sensory
impairments, and related disabilities reach their potential. With a strong and
diverse staff of professionals, CARD provides consultative support and training
in a variety of real-life settings, including the person’s home, schools, job
site or wherever assistance is requested (WHAT IS CARD?, 2014). CARD also
offers comprehensive training to the public and assists the community to build
programs that include best practices in supporting individuals with autism and
Keynotes and breakout sessions will be conducted by top
professionals and influential people in the autism community. AAPC author Kathy
Oehler (I Hate to Write) will be
speaking on Implementing Evidence- Based
Practices to Increase Writing Skills in Students With ASD.
Throughout the conference attendees can take part in various
special events. This year, there will be three, 50-minute Lunch & Learn
Sessions where attendees can enjoy their lunch while learning from a variety of
speakers, including John Miller (Autism
& the Myth of Normality), Jenny and Brent Anderson (Empowering Though Supported Entrepreneurship),
and Raymond T. Heipp (Making Sense of
Technology Meet NAO). Attendees will also get the opportunity to meet with,
take photos of, and get books signed by presenters.
Meet and greet CARD staff, professionals, and other families
at a special Reception Network Dinner on Saturday night. This will be a great
opportunity to network while listening to the sounds of talented musicians with
and without ASD.
Sunday morning, raffle tickets will be handed out when
entering the keynote session. Winners will receive exciting prizes such as
iPads, gift certificates, games, hotel stays and more! The drawing will be held
at 1:00pm on Sunday.
