The Mom's Guide to Asperger Syndrome and Related Disorders
Drawing its credibility from the author's personal experience both as the mom of a son with Asperger Syndrome and her study of and work with children and adolescents with special needs, this book is especially helpful during the preschool through elementary school years. No stone is left unturned as the author explains, in a friendly, familiar voice, situations and issues that all parents with a child with AS will encounter. As such, the book arms parents with basic, sound information, empowering them to seek out the very best services and programs for their child. The book is written primarily for parents of children newly diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome.
MEET THE AUTHOR
, a single mother of a teen-aged son with Asperger Syndrome and a rambunctious four-year-old daughter, brings a joyful but no-nonsense approach to her professional and personal life, and believes that the only true barriers are often self- or socially imposed. Currently completing her master's in counseling psychology (her third career in as many decades), Ms. Johnston-Tyler works part time with high school students in career assessment, and hopes to continue to write about her experiences, both as a mother of an Asperger teen and working with high-risk and special needs youth in career development.
