Living Along the Autism Spectrum
What Does It Mean to Have Autism or Asperger Syndrome?

This long-awaited DVD brings the viewer into a frank dialogue between two individuals whose lives have been deeply impacted by autism spectrum disorders. Stephen Shore, an individual on the spectrum who is also a professional in the field of ASD, and Robert Naseef, a psychologist who works primarily with families of children with disabilities and the father of a son with autism, discuss the human costs and benefits of ASD. In doing so, they cover topics such as sensory issues, social skills, anxiety, being "different," family grief and anguish, siblings, empathy/compassion, as well as the cultural implications of ASD. Daniel Gottlieb, a psychologist, writer and speaker on disabilities who has a grandson on the spectrum, moderates the conversation. This DVD gives a human touch to an often misunderstood disorder. It is a great way to facilitate an open discussion about ASD, and is ideal for teacher training, professional development and for enhancing general public awareness.

Robert Naseef, PhD, is a psychologist in independent practice in Philadelphia and a consultant to numerous schools and human service organizations. He is a graduate of Temple University. Robert's specialty is working with families of children with special health care needs. He has a special interest and expertise in the psychology of men and fatherhood.

Stephen Shore, EdD, is an assistant professor at Adelphi University where he teaches courses in special education and autism. In addition to being a prolific writer, Stephen presents and consults internationally on adult issues pertinent to education, relationships, employment, advocacy, and disclosure. His accomplishments are remarkable considering that as a young child, he was diagnosed with "atypical development with strong autistic tendencies" and recommended for institutionalization.

Customer Review: S. Schiffman - An excellent video for those experiencing the disorders, families of those with the disorders and clinicians. It is rare that we are able to see and hear such knowledgeable and experienced educators and practitioners. I would recommend this video for anyone who is interested in the subject.
