Description

Intimate Relationships and Sexual Health
A Curriculum for Teaching Adolescents/Adults with High-Functioning Autism Spectrum Disorders and Other Social Challenges

This comprehensive and well-researched curriculum fills a long-felt need in the autism community; a frank, up-to-date resource on sexuality tailored to the unique characteristics of high-functioning adolescents and adults on the spectrum.  Based on years of experience teaching sexual health and extensive familiarity with individuals with autism spectrum disorders, the authors present "all you ever wanted to know but were afraid to ask/teach", taking into the consideration the learning styles inherent in autism.  The curriculum comes complete with lessons, activities, handouts, resources, and more.  The accompanying CD contains all the handouts for easy duplication and individualization. Foreword by Gary B. Mesibov, PhD.

Customer Review: Alice - Intimate Relationships and Sexual Health - A Curriculum for Teaching Adolescents/Adults with High Functioning Autism Spectrum Disorders and other Social Challenges is a very much needed resource for teaching very difficult subject matter. It provides valuable and practical lessons to teach a variety of topics related to sexuality. The lesson plans are well developed. The adaptations for parents or therapist are excellent!! This will be a much used resource as I collaborate with the teacher in our high school Autism Support Classroom. Thank you so much for creating this!!!

I am exceedingly impressed at how well the authors have presented this subject and would suggest this incredibly informative guide be adopted by every high school health curriculum as required reading. It covers essential information in a very open and candid way.

Customer Review: Ryan - This incredibly comprehensive and thoughtful book should be required reading for any parents of children and adolescents with social learning challenges. While it's geared towards those who are teaching or working with young people this book could definitely be used with adults as well. When we formed the "Guy's Group" curriculum at our summer camp we used this book as the template for our program. The authors made the book very user friendly and provide great suggestions on the best ways to teach this information. Highly reccommended and a necessity!
