Parents of Children with Autism Living in Rural Areas Needed for Research About Coping Strategies
Hello! The Special Education department at The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign would like to learn about coping strategies used for stress and challenges associated with having a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
Below is a description of the project. Please contact us if you would like to participate in this project or if you have any questions.
About the Project:
As a participant, you will be asked to participate in an interview study for 60-90 minutes. This interview is designed to gather information about the ways parents of children (3-8 years old) with ASD cope with stress and how community resources can help improve these coping strategies. What you share will help us to understand what kind of coping strategies are most helpful in stressful situations for parents of children with ASD. Your information will also help us to determine how community resources can help improve these coping strategies so more families have information on and access to coping strategies. After the interview, you will have the opportunity to share your phone number and/or email address if you are interested in a follow-up contact. During the follow-up, you will be asked to review a one-page summary of the interview and provide comments.
Please consider participating in this study if:
(a) You are a parent or caregiver of a child who has Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD),
(b) Your child is between the ages of 3-8 years old,
(c) You have experienced stress associated with ASD and;
(d) You live in a rural/small city or town in Central Illinois (outside Champaign/Urbana).
