Using the visual of a tool belt, strategies are grouped into the following categories: Chat Tools, Help Thinking Tools, Amusement Tools, and Exercise Tools - all tools have proven helpful for individuals with autism spectrum disorder, who struggle with social-emotional challenge. Lots of forms and visuals make this a practical and ready-to-use guide for any caregiver.
MEET THE AUTHOR
is a Disability Specialist Speech Pathologist and she has also completed a master's degree in special education. She works with children, adolescents and adults with complex social, emotional and behavioral difficulties in a variety of settings such as schools, accommodation, post school
options, supported employment and prisons. Many of the individuals she supports have experienced abuse, neglect, family disharmony, repeated bullying, suffer from drug and alcohol addiction. Through her experience
she has learned that it is important to look beyond the tip of the iceberg and focus on what is below the surface to untangle the WHY? When an individual is losing their cool or having a meltdown they are trying to communicate that they lack the skills needed to effectively manage the challenging situaiton
. They need help to identify their emotions, express and manage their emotions in appropriate ways. Taking CHARGE of My Rainbow of Emotions
provides this much-needed information in an easy-to-use format. Dolly also provides training nationally and internationally.
She has developed the Rainbow of Emotions App for the iPad on the iTunes App Store:
. All proceeds from the purchase of the app go to School for Parents (a not-for-profit organization).
