Beyond the Wall
Personal Experiences With Autism and Asperger Syndrome
Understand autism from one of the experts -- Stephen Shore!
Beyond the Wall: Personal Experiences with Autism and Asperger Syndrome is an honest, courageous book. Written by a person with high-functioning autism, this book offers so much more than the traditional autobiography. Drawing on personal and professional experience, Stephen Shore combines three voices to create a touching and, at the same time, highly informative book for professionals as well as individuals who have autism. Get a unique perspective on ASD across the years! Foreword by Temple Grandin, PhD.
MEET THE AUTHOR
Diagnosed with "atypical development with strong autistic tendencies," Stephen Shore was viewed as "too sick" to be treated on an outpatient basis and recommended for institutionalization. Nonverbal until the age of 4, with much help from his parents, teachers, and others, Stephen has his doctoral degree in special education from Boston University with a focus on helping people on the autism spectrum develop their capacities to the fullest extent possible. In addition to working with children and talking about life on the autism spectrum, Stephen presents and consults nationally and internationally on adult issues pertinent to advocacy and disclosure, education, relationships, and employment. He also serves on the board of Autism Speaks, the Asperger’s Association of New England, and is on the Board of Directors for Unlocking Autism, the Autism Services Association of Massachusetts, and MAAP Services. Stephen is executive director of Autism Spectrum Disorder Consulting. Shore is also the editor of Ask and Tell, the first advocacy book written by individuals with ASD.
